How to Customize the Lifestyle Theme – Part 2…

In this series of videos we show you how to customize the Lifestyle theme.  To customize the Lifestyle theme you’ll need to modify a combination of 4 images as well as modify some code in the WordPress admin theme Editor.  Video 1 demonstrates how to change the Top Nav, Nav Bar, Sub Nav, Wrapper, Headline and the Background of the website.

Here are the correct dimensions and names for the 4 images you’ll need to upload via FTP:

topnav.png – 20 x 30

navbar.png – 20 x 35

navhov.png – 20 x 35

headline.png – 20 x 25

Remember:  the images Must be named exactly as listed above so that they override the default theme images.

Video 2 shows you how to modify the Nav Hover and Sub Nav Hover images.  Also, video 2 shows you how to modify the color of the Links on the website.

  1. I am working on the LifeStyle theme and have read the two that you have published. I am wondering if the other themes are similar to Lifestyle as far as personalizing? Would it be to my advantage to follow along and try to improvise?

  2. Adam,

Can I not change the navbar color in the style sheet? How do I access the FTP files? I have Hostgator and I am working on a MAC. I am trying to figure this out on my own.

How can I get the sizes of the footer, navbar to change color? Can you help? How is FL. I moved out to LA in 2009. Believe me, I am dying to move back to FL.

    Talk with you soon.

    • Hi Malia,

The navbar is made up of an image so it unfortunately cannot be changed in the style sheet. You’ll have to create the image in Photoshop (or any image editing program) and then upload it via FTP. I use filezilla as my FTP client. If you Google “filezilla” you’ll find the download link. It’s a 100% Free tool. To connect to your server via FTP you’ll need the following information:

Host (this is usually the primary domain name on your hosting account – mydomainname.com – or it’s the IP address for your hosting account)
      Username: (your hosting account username)
      Password: (your hosting account password)

Enter that info in your Filezilla FTP client and you’ll then connect to your server. Once connected, the next step is to upload the navbar.png image. Once it’s uploaded the new navbar color will appear.

I hope this helps. If you have more questions feel free to contact me via the “Contact” form.

      Adam
p.s. FL is beautiful this time of year.

  3. Hi Adam,

I am a newbie to this so have struggled my way through so far. I have now found your videos which are/will be a great help to me.

I have a simple question – in the first video you are changing the colours of the navbar, topnav etc – you created some files in photoshop to upload to the website but did not explain how or what you had created – could you back up a step and explain this please? I can do all the uploading part but don’t know what to create to upload?!

    Many thanks
    Libby
