How to Customize the Serenity Child Theme

This is the 4the of a series of 12 videos on how to build a premium WordPress site using the Genesis Framework and the Serenity Child Theme by StudioPress. In this video we show you how to customize / stylize the Serenity Child Theme.

Here are the image dimensions…

bg.png – 20 x 500 (background image)

footer.png – 960 x 40 (footer image)

widget-header.png –  5 x 30 (widget header image)

subnav.png – 6 x 35 (sub navigation image)

subnavhov.png – 6 x 35 (sub nave hover image)

Remember, all images must be named exactly as listed above and uploaded to the Serenity Theme “images” folder.

  1. what other program can i use instead of photoshop to be able to save images in png and also to be able to match the same color like you did on this video for the subnav

    • You can use Illustrator, iPhoto (if you have a mac) or Gimp.org. If you’re looking to save money then I would suggest using Gimp because it’s 100% free and will do what you need. I hope this helps. Adam

  2. Hi,
    The subnav doesn’t work when uploaded to the ftp, i.e. on the site the nav bar simply doesn’t appear. Any suggestions? I’ve used 6×35 for size as indicated.

    Where do I change the color of the footer widget area?
